The Green Sea Turtle enjoys a lifespan of 100 years. With paddle-like flippers, it glides gracefully through tropical and sub-tropical waters. While its carapace displays olive tones, it is named for its vibrant green body fat. Females migrate to their natal beach, lay up to 200 eggs in a shallow nest, and abandon it. Hatchlings must fend for themselves as they waddle to the sea. On earth for 120 million y ears, this species is now endangered. In the past 50 y ears, overhunting, climate change, habitat loss, disease, and light pollution have reduced its population by 90%. Now protected by international laws and treaties, perhaps Green Seat Turtles may once again thrive.
